Up and coming production company sets sights on showcasing plays that
highlight relevant social issues that will resonate with the South Florida
community
Miami, Florida - Magnetic Theatricals, Inc., an up and coming not-for-profit
production company, is fusing art and entertainment with social consciousness in
order to stimulate dialogue and increase awareness on relevant and diverse
topics within the South Florida community. Each original production will draw
its content and style from everyday community issues with the goal of using
theatre as a means of education. Plays will be coupled with Q&A sessions,
allowing attendees to discuss their views and opinions about the topic at
hand.
Justin Koren, an established member of the South Florida theatre community,
founded Magnetic Theatricals in 2005 and is the company's Producing Artistic
Director. His passion for artistic expression combined with his observations of
the changing face of South Florida, encouraged him to create the organization
and put his thoughts into action. Koren is currently authoring Defining Code
Red, a new play, which Magnetic Theatricals will produce as part of its
first season. "In addition to examining the painful reality of a child's murder,
the play also explores the communal responsibility of raising a child. The play
is a passionate, sensitive and intimate portrayal of loss, fear, hope and
courage," says Koren.
Supporting Justin's creative vision is Diane Perless, Magnetic Theatricals
Executive Director and an accomplished businesswoman and screenwriter.
Diane founded London Aire, Inc., and under her direction as President and CEO,
the company grew into a multi-million dollar business and had operations in 48
states.
"I am proud to be working with an organization that is devoted to bridging
the cultural gap in our society," said Perless. "Justin's creativity combined
with my business sense will enable Magnetic Theatricals to not only entertain,
but to also raise social conscience."
The Board of Directors is comprised of a variety of prominent people who see
the value in shedding a creative light on community matters. The first board
meeting was held Friday, June 16, at the Bank of Coral Gables. William P.
VanderWyden III, Esq. from the University of Miami School of Law was elected
Magnetic Theatricals' President with Louise Stubins of the National Council of
Jewish Women as Vice President. Ela M. Rivero-Prieto from the Bank of Coral
Gables and Richard B. Gordon, C.P.A. will be serving as Secretary and Treasurer,
respectively.
